Graphic design and colors of the year,
Photoshopped windows catch the eye.
Plastered on a plastic torso
Vacant expressions black and white
Lift up the worshipped gifts to reach their peak.
Graffiti in a foreign language—
A foreign language we’re trained to speak.
Around the corner, bricks might crumble
But here, full-spectrum beams preserve the sparkle.
Prompt: Mag 251
that´s imagination...!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are all trained in the language of mindless , nihilistic , conspicuous consumption ...nihilistic ? Maybe "Consumption" is a God of sorts , after all....
ReplyDeleteAs I read this, I feel like I'm following someone around a museum or a showroom, learning about an uncanny phenomenon. Even after I'm told about the "foreign language we’re trained to speak", there is still that sense of standing outside.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to think about how future civilizations might perceive our current lifestyle. Thanks for sharing how this felt to you.
DeleteNice contrast between the crumbling bricks and the sparkle.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Maria!
